Costco’s own pages name no first responder discount on membership or anything else, and ID.me says it isn’t aware of one. The one cash back route that exists runs through Price.com and only applies to a brand-new membership, not a renewal or an upgrade.
Costco is a membership warehouse club, so most of what its site offers starts with a membership. Its Join Costco page promotes a shop card for new members: the page says a $40 Costco Shop Card goes to Executive members and a $20 Shop Card to Gold Star members, and that the offer is valid only for new members and for people who haven’t been a Costco member in any capacity in the last 18 months. It’s an offer for everyone who qualifies as new, not a program for first responders. Costco’s pharmacy address forwards to a separate site titled Costco Pharmacy Online.
How To Get The Costco First Responder Discount
There’s no first responder discount to claim from Costco, and no badge or pay stub that gets you a lower membership price on the pages read. The pages that were read are Costco’s home page, its Join Costco page and its pharmacy landing page. An address where a military discount page would sit returns Costco’s own not-found page, the same one an address made up for the test returns. ID.me’s page for Costco also says it isn’t aware that Costco offers first responders discounts, which is one source and not the last word.
The route that does exist is Price.com, which lists cash back on new Costco memberships. Here’s how it works:
- Create a free Price.com account if you don’t have one.
- Open Price.com’s Costco page and activate cash back before you join.
- Sign up for your new Costco membership in that same visit.
- Watch your Price.com wallet afterward. Price.com says cash back is added in approximately 90 days.
What The Price.com Route Covers
Price.com’s page says “Cash Back is only available for new Costco membership purchases. Membership renewals and upgrades are not eligible for Cash Back.” Its FAQ adds that the cash back applies to new Gold Star, Executive and Business memberships, and that the amount depends on the membership type. This post doesn’t print a figure because Price.com changes it. Read the number on Price.com’s Costco page the day you sign up.
That makes the route narrow. If you’re already a member, there’s nothing here to earn. If you’re joining for the first time, or returning after a long gap, activate the cash back first and then complete the sign-up in the same session. Costco’s own shop card offer is separate from the Price.com cash back, so check both sets of terms before you decide how to join.
Where Else To Look
If Costco’s membership price is the sticking point, Costco’s own page is the place to compare the current Gold Star and Executive terms, since this post doesn’t quote prices. If you only want a pharmacy, ask Costco’s pharmacy whether a membership is needed for what you have in mind before you pay for one. Ask for the answer on the phone or in writing, because the answer can vary and this post didn’t read a policy on it.
