FPL Offers Four Resources For First Responders

Florida Power & Light (FPL) first responders are among the most dedicated public servants in the country. That’s why the company proudly offers a number of resources that support their efforts and ensure they’re equipped to help when they’re needed most.

1. Health Center Cost Sharing Reduction Plan

Individuals with income at or below 150% of the federal poverty level (FPG) qualify for a health center’s sliding fee discount scale, or SFDS, as it’s known. These plans offer substantial reductions in out-of-pocket medical expenses, including copays and deductibles.

2. FPL Staging Sites and Emergency Operations Centre

During Hurricane Irma, FPL activated 29 staging sites that serve as critical resource hubs for crews and equipment that are working to restore customers’ power. These sites, which are located throughout the area, provide crews with rest and food.

3. The fpl energy grid

With investments in building a stronger, smarter, and more resilient electric grid, FPL was able to withstand the unprecedented customer traffic that occurred during Hurricane Irma, shave days off of restoration time and prevent thousands of outages. The company also improved its website so that it could handle increased traffic and ensure that customers have easy access to information, even during hurricanes.

4. Recognition Bonuses for First Responders

Governor Ron DeSantis recently announced $1,000 first responder recognition bonuses to recognize police officers, sheriff’s deputies, paramedics, EMTs and firefighters employed by local governments across the state. This program is part of the Governor’s Freedom First Budget, which was passed to support Florida’s law enforcement and first responders.
