Cold Steel offers first responders a discount through its pro purchase program, which runs through Guidefitter. The program lists law enforcement, fire and EMS, among others. Cold Steel doesn’t publish a percentage, so the price you see once you’re in is the number that counts. GovX lists Cold Steel too, which gives you a second place to compare.
Cold Steel was founded in 1980 by Lynn C. Thompson. It sells knives and gear for hunting, outdoor use, daily carry and tactical work, and its site offers free shipping on orders over $95.

Who Qualifies
The First Responders and Frontline Health Workers group lists law enforcement and retired law enforcement, fire and retired fire, EMS (EMTs, paramedics and RNs), 911 dispatch, search and rescue, and journeymen and linemen. The same page covers military service members, guides and outfitters, outdoor industry employees and other groups.
What To Know Before You Apply
Guidefitter qualifies you first, and then you opt in to each brand’s program. Membership in Cold Steel’s program isn’t guaranteed. Cold Steel, not Guidefitter, decides the eligibility rules, the pricing and benefit level, and what’s available.
Because the price isn’t printed, compare your member price with the regular price on Cold Steel’s site before you buy. If a knife you want isn’t offered to members, you pay the regular price.
The GovX Option
GovX lists Cold Steel on a Military & First Responder Discount page. GovX is a free membership site that takes federal, state and local law enforcement officers, full-time and volunteer firefighters, and emergency medical workers including EMTs and paramedics. GovX doesn’t show a percentage on Cold Steel’s page, so compare that price with your Guidefitter price and the regular price before you pick one.
