BJ’s Wholesale Club is showing first responders and healthcare workers some appreciation as they combat the coronavirus pandemic. Beginning Sunday, all locations of BJ’s are hosting an “Appreciation Hour” from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at which first responders and healthcare workers can shop without memberships during this period by showing their badge at entry to each store. Eligible workers may also sign up for free four-month inner circle membership by visiting their local BJ’s store’s member services desk along with showing their ID at these times.

Due to the pandemic, this company has implemented numerous changes at their stores that have led to additional compensation changes; such as raising hourly employee pay by $2 an hour; setting up a relief fund for those experiencing financial difficulty; creating emergency paid leave for employees who are sick or quarantined; offering masks and gloves to all workers and instituting temperature checks of employees at their workplaces. Furthermore, senior shopping hours were adjusted so people over 60 can shop seven days instead of just Monday-Saturday.

Other companies are also giving back to those at the frontlines of pandemic control by offering discounts to them as heroes. Helly Hansen offers 20% discounts to healthcare professionals and first responders; their status can be verified using specific portals in order to unlock these deals. Helzberg Jewelry gives military personnel and students 10% discounts, while JanSport has 30% offers for teachers, first responders, and medical professionals.
