Ikon Pass

How To Get The Ikon Pass First Responder Discount

GovX lists an Ikon Pass discount for its members that first responders can use: up to $100 off an adult Ikon Pass and up to $70 off an adult Ikon Base Pass. Ikon’s own program page names military members and not first responders, so this one comes through GovX instead of through Ikon.

The Ikon Pass is a multi-resort ski and snowboard pass. GovX’s listing says its passes give access to more than 70 destinations worldwide, and describes the Ikon Base Pass as the more budget-friendly option with select blackout dates and the Ikon Session Pass 4-Day as a pass for one bucket-list trip. This post is about the first two, since those are the ones GovX’s first responder listing covers.

How To Get The Ikon Pass First Responder Discount

  1. Create a free GovX account and verify as a first responder. When you join, you get a GovX ID.
  2. Open the Ikon Pass page on GovX and find the listings labeled available now to all GovX members. There are two: the full Ikon Pass and the Ikon Base Pass.
  3. Choose the pass that fits how often you’ll ski, and buy it through that listing.
  4. Look at the total before you pay.

GovX’s page also shows listings labeled military only for the same passes. Those are for service members, so skip them and use the ones open to all GovX members.

What The Discount Is

On the full Ikon Pass, GovX’s listing says to save up to $100 on an adult pass for anyone 23 or older, and up to $90 on a young adult pass for ages 13 to 22. On the Ikon Base Pass, it says up to $70 off an adult pass and up to $50 off a young adult pass. Each listing says one discount is available per member.

“Up to” matters here. The listing doesn’t say which pass products get the full amount or whether the saving changes by when you buy, so the figure on your screen is the one that counts. If you’re deciding between the full pass and the Base Pass, look at the blackout dates on the Base Pass first. They’re the trade-off for the lower price, and a schedule built around holiday weekends may not fit.

Where Ikon Itself Stands

Ikon’s own military sales page lists active duty, retired and reserve personnel as the people who can buy discounted passes on base with a valid military ID. It lists its partners as the MWR military ticket program and GovX. It doesn’t name first responders, which is why the offer on this page is GovX’s member listing and not an Ikon program. If you ask Ikon about it, tell them it’s GovX’s listing so they know where to look.

How GovX Works

GovX isn’t only a verification step, so it behaves differently from the code boxes you may have used elsewhere. Its home page is a store, with Shop, Events & Tickets, Travel, Memberships & Subscriptions and Gift Cards sections and a page for each brand, and the Ikon Pass listing sits on one of those brand pages. You join once and get a GovX ID, and GovX says you can use that ID to verify at partner websites, so the same login can work on GovX itself and on a brand’s own site when the brand has set that up. A VerifyPass box, like the one Echelon uses, does the opposite job: it verifies you and then hands back a one-time code to use at checkout.

For Ikon, the first responder discount is GovX’s own member listing, not a program on Ikon’s site, so GovX is where you start and where the terms are printed. The listing doesn’t say whether the savings arrive as a code or apply when you buy through GovX, so read what it shows after you verify and check the total before you pay.

Who GovX Counts

GovX’s eligibility page says you’re eligible if you’re a federal, state or local law enforcement officer. It lists state police and highway patrol, sheriff’s departments, city police departments and correctional facilities, plus federal agencies that include the FBI, ATF, DEA, BOP and U.S. Marshals under the Department of Justice and ICE, TSA, CBP and Air Marshals under Homeland Security.

Firefighters qualify if they’re full-time or volunteer, and GovX lists municipal fire departments, the National Parks Service, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. For emergency medical workers, GovX’s page says you’re eligible if you work directly in emergency medicine, and it names EMTs and paramedics.

GovX says that once you join, you get a GovX ID you can use to verify at partner websites, and that you don’t have to upload documents or share sensitive information: you log in with your GovX ID and GovX handles the authentication.
