SureFire

SureFire gives law enforcement and other first responders 20% off retail price on everything except batteries, and the way to get it is a phone call. Dial 1-800-828-8809 and ask for Law Enforcement Sales. SureFire’s Law Enforcement Sales page says you’ll be asked to send a confirmation email from your agency or department email address, and you may be asked for a scanned copy of your ID card. Unless SureFire agrees otherwise, everything ships to your agency or department address, so if you’d rather have it come to your house, raise that on the call.

SureFire makes WeaponLights, flashlights and headlamps for tactical use. Its own story page says Dr. John Matthews designed and patented the first commercial laser sight for use on a firearm in 1979, that the company supplied laser sight-equipped shotguns to the Los Angeles Police Department for its SWAT team during the Summer Olympics, and that it changed its name from Laser Products to SureFire, LLC in 2001. Its FAQ adds that many SureFire products are completely made in the USA.

How To Get The SureFire First Responder Discount

Pick out what you want first so you can name it on the call, since the page describes a phone order rather than a code. Then phone 1-800-828-8809 and ask for Law Enforcement Sales. Have your agency or department email account open, because SureFire asks you to send a confirmation email from that address, and keep a scan of your ID card within reach in case they ask for it.

The Law Enforcement Sales page doesn’t list phone hours or say which roles count as “other first responders,” so ask both questions when you call if you’re a dispatcher, an EMT or a volunteer firefighter and aren’t sure. The Military Sales page gives the same number with Monday through Friday, 8 to 5, so that’s a fair window to try, though the page doesn’t promise those hours for law enforcement calls.

That Military Sales page also says a selection of SureFire products may be found at GovX.com for current and former military, first responders and law enforcement. GovX’s own SureFire page didn’t load readable text for me, so I can’t tell you which products are on it or what they cost. If you already have a GovX ID, it’s worth a look before you call.

The Battery Exclusion And Your Warranty

Batteries are the one thing left out of the 20%, and SureFire’s FAQ gives you a reason to read the fine print before you buy them elsewhere. It says genuine Panasonic, Duracell or Energizer batteries won’t void your warranty, but any other non-SureFire brand will. It also tells you to buy SureFire brand batteries from surefire.com or an authorized SureFire dealer, because the FAQ warns that counterfeit or inferior lithium batteries lack the power output and short-circuit protection of SureFire’s own. Plan on batteries not being discounted, and stick to SureFire or one of those three brands.

One more warranty detail comes from the FAQ. The heads of some SureFire flashlights and WeaponLights are fixed in place. If a head won’t unscrew with moderate hands-only effort, it isn’t meant to come off, and removing it, or trying to, voids the warranty. Leave it alone and call instead.

Q&A

Q: How much is the SureFire first responder discount?
A: 20% off retail price on everything except batteries, for law enforcement and other first responders.

Q: How do I get it?
A: Call SureFire at 1-800-828-8809 and ask for Law Enforcement Sales. The page describes a phone order, not a checkout code.

Q: What do I need to send?
A: A confirmation email from your agency or department email address. You may also be asked for a scanned copy of your ID card.

Q: Can I use the discount online?
A: SureFire’s Law Enforcement Sales and Military Sales pages describe a phone call only, and neither mentions ID.me. If you want an online route, the Military Sales page points to a selection of products at GovX.com.

Q: Where will my order ship?
A: Unless SureFire agrees otherwise, to your agency or department address. Ask on the call if you need a different one.

Q: Do batteries get the discount?
A: No. Batteries are the exception to the 20%.

Q: Will cheaper batteries void my warranty?
A: They can. The FAQ says genuine Panasonic, Duracell or Energizer batteries won’t, and any other non-SureFire brand will.

Q: My SureFire light won’t turn on. What do I check first?
A: Put in fresh batteries, positive end forward. The FAQ says 95% of non-working SureFire flashlights come down to dead or reversed batteries. If it still stays dark after the troubleshooting steps on the FAQ page, call 1-800-828-8809 and ask for Customer Service.

Q: Is there a military discount too?
A: Yes. The Military Sales page says to call 800-828-8809 Monday through Friday, 8 to 5, and request the military discount to get 20% off a personal purchase.
