The group also carries the True Value brand, and stores can trade as Do it Best, as True Value, or under their own local name. Between them the group covers over 8,000 locations.
So there is no corporate policy to look up, and a store that gives first responders a discount is doing it on its own initiative. That is why you will find people online who swear they get one and people who swear there is no such thing. Both are describing their own store accurately.
What To Actually Do
Ask your local store directly, and ask the person who sets prices:
- Speak to the owner or manager. Counter staff often have not been told what the owner offers.
- Have your ID or badge with you. Where these exist they are applied on sight, without an enrolment process.
- Ask about a department or station account as well as a personal discount. Independent owners tend to be more receptive to that, and it is worth more.
A no from one store tells you nothing about the next one. This is the one category where it is genuinely worth asking twice.
