Whether an individual store stretches the definition is up to that store. What is written down is firefighters and police officers, and that is what you can rely on.
What The Discount Does Not Cover
The discount cannot be combined with other promotions or discounts, which matters at a retailer that runs sales more or less constantly. If a floor is already on a promotional price, you are choosing between the sale price and your discount rather than stacking them.
It also excludes As-Is, Closeout, Clearance and Special Buy products. Those are the cheapest items in the store, so the discount does not apply to the clearance rack. Work out which is actually lower before you decide.
And it is in store. Plan on buying at the counter rather than online.
How It Compares
At 15% this beats every other flooring and home improvement first responder discount we have checked, and it beats them on a category most people are spending real money in.
Lowe’s gives verified first responders MyLowe’s Rewards Silver status rather than a percentage, which is worth setting up but is not money off at the register. Tractor Supply pays 2% back in rewards year round. Floor & Decor, the closest direct competitor, runs occasional in-store events for military and veterans only, so first responders are not covered there at all.
