Public Storage doesn’t publish a first responder discount, and its military page names no discount at all. Rakuten, MaxRebates and TopCashback each have a Public Storage page, though, so click through one of them before you reserve a unit.
The military page says Public Storage offers military personnel and their families a flexible, convenient way to store belongings, and that’s the whole offer: no rate, no code, no group verification. Nothing on the home page, deals page, FAQs, life transitions page or terms names police, fire or EMS either.
How To Get The Public Storage First Responder Discount
With no first responder program to claim, cash back is the route that works. Here’s how to do it:
- Sign in to Rakuten, or join if you’re new to it.
- Open Rakuten’s Public Storage page and click Shop Now.
- Pick your unit and reserve it in that same visit.
- Leave out any coupon code the cash back site doesn’t list, since MaxRebates and TopCashback both say outside codes can cost you the cash back.
MaxRebates and TopCashback have Public Storage pages too, so if you already use one of them, go through that one. Rates change often and differ by site, so we don’t print them. Check each page on the day you rent and take the higher one.
What The Page Says About Terms
Public Storage’s pages carry a banner reading “New customers only. Restrictions and fees apply.” The deals page adds that promotions vary by location and tells you to check your local facility for current offers and discounts. It lists a 50% off first month rent offer on participating units, a $1 first month rent offer on select units and a 2nd month free offer on select units. Which one you see depends on the unit and the location, so the quote on your screen is the one that counts.
The cash back fine print matters more here than at most stores. Rakuten says cash back isn’t available on gift cards or purchases made with gift cards, and that it’s only available for the first transaction, limited to one per member. A unit rents month to month, so keep that in mind when you plan around it. MaxRebates says returning or canceling part or all of an order may void your cash back, and TopCashback says to start your purchase with an empty shopping cart.
